What is social anxiety disorder? Well, we all have fears and we all have situations or places we would rather avoid. For instance, going for a job interview, passing a driving test, sitting an exam, being alone at night, driving in rush hour traffic, shopping in a crowded supermarket, and so on.

Most people manage to control their fears and anxiety and get on with their lives. But there are very many people who just cannot cope that way. Their fear and anxiety are so high and intense that it consumes their very existence. They are constantly fearful and on edge, and worry about everyday things in a manner that is totally inappropriate to their significance.

Social anxiety is the fear of social situations and the interaction with other people that can automatically bring on feelings of self-consciousness, judgment, evaluation, and criticism. Put another way, social anxiety is the fear and anxiety of being judged and evaluated negatively by other people, leading to feelings of inadequacy, embarrassment, humiliation, and depression. If a person usually becomes anxious in social situations, but seems fine when they are alone, then “social anxiety” may be the problem.

Rated as the third largest psychological disorder in the United States, social anxiety disorder or social phobia, is more common an issue for many people than previously known.  No one should feel inadequate or alone if suffering from this condition, as millions of people across the world face this traumatic problem everyday of their lives.  Someone may face one, some or all of the common conditions associated with social phobia or from a more generalized social phobia.  With the right social anxiety disorder treatment these phobias can be overcome.

I always hear and see the word homophobia used for people that object to homosexual behavior. Based on my belief that the Bible is the True Word of God, I think that homosexual behavior (not the person) is sinful and wrong. In NO WAY am I even REMOTELY FEARFUL of any homosexual person or even the act because I would not ever be in the situation that it would affect me in one way or another. So if pathophobia (fear of disease), monophobia (fear of being alone),glossophobia (fear of public speaking), algophobia (fear of pain), etc. are all fears as the word phobia implies, what does homophobia mean?? Are people using this completely incorrectly?? What are you thoughts??

Panic Disorder, permanent or cureable?

I developed panic disorder and depersonalization / derealization after 2 years of chronic marijuana use.
There was some stressful events leading up to the onset of the panic, at first I had atleast 20 panic attacks a day and was certain I was going psychotic.
2,5years later, since I’m still not psychotic, I guess I’m not going crazy afterall.

However I still experience panic disorder.

overcome it?

I’m an 18 y/o female and I’ve been social phobic for almost my whole life, but of course it started surfacing more as I got older, maybe around 9th grade and continued to get worse, although I did not lessen my exposure to people/public speaking.

I guess I’m just looking into what treatment is best. I tried SSRI’s (prozac and then I tried celexa, but somewhat low doses) and they provided very minimal relief. I’m currently on nothing now. I was getting therapy for general anxiety/stress but haven’t for blushing/social phobia specifically. Should I try that before I try another medication? Any natural remedies?
